THE DISH ON OCTOBER

I know, I know…we’re technically a day a way from October 1st but I just had to get this off my chest. October may just be my favorite month ya’ll. In Texas we finally get some cooler nights and mornings and that brings a relief to my outdoor runs. Football season is in full throttle and smack talk around Bowl games are already heating up. Pumpkins and colorful mums line the front of stores and homes and despite the lack of enthusiasm these days, Halloween ghost and goblins start to appear on front porches.

It’s also fair time around these parts and we do it real big. First we have the Texas State Fair that runs for three weeks. I’ve been going since I could walk and I tell ya it’s a event I look forward to every year. Sure there are some things about it that don’t sit too well with me these days but it’s tradition, a part of our history, and I’ve learned to avoid the things that make me sigh (livestock to name one).

Luckily, us vegans have our own fair too. The Texas Veggie Fair celebrates it’s fifth year this month and everyone is encouraged to attend. There will be powerful speakers, vegan apparel, awareness groups, cooking demos, entertainment, a kids area, a chance to adopt an animal, and a freaking plethora of awesome vegan food. It’s a fabulous, fun, family-friendly, well-organized event. Can I get an amen?

Ahhh, October. Even though it is still quite hot around here I start craving and serving up a lot of soups, pumpkin and squash dishes, and find a way to throw an apple in to everything. Yep I looove me some fall food, which means I’m planning on turning it up a notch this month with several new classes, workshops and events. I’ve been overly excited and giddy about what’s happening this month so I couldn’t wait another day to give you the dish.

October 5th – Private catering event, McKinney, TX

October 9th – Cooking Class @ Ozark Natural Foods, Fayetteville, AR; Plant-Based Bacon

October 16th – State Fair of Texas Celebrity Kitchen Demo, Dallas, TX; I’ll be preparing a vegan dish!!!

October 19th – Texas Veggie Fair, Dallas, TX; Kick Butt Boots Vendor, come say Hi and grab a cool KBB T!

October 21st – NWA Vegan Food Enthusiasts Meet Up, Fayetteville, Ar; The Farmers Table

October 23rd – Cooking Class @ Ozark Natural Foods, Fayetteville, AR; One-Pot Meals

October 30th – Cooking Class, Dallas, TX; Scrumptious Squash Dishes
