ONE AWESOME AUGUST

42ndst

If you haven’t heard yet (@kickbuttvegan on Twitter) or seen yet (katmossmendenhalll on Instagram) then let me let you in on a little secret. I’m writing this post today from none other than New York City. That’s right ya’ll I’m in the Big Apple for TWO weeks!!! Two weeks of eating working, eating, collaborating, eating, attending a few vegan events, eating, and seeing some precious vegan friends. Life is good. No! Life is AWESOME because I’m also eating All. The. Vegan. Food. and this is exactly why you need to follow me on Instagram. Now!

Let me explain. A friend of a friend was looking for someone to apartment and kitty sit while they’re out of the country. I checked my calendar and happened to be available, got the ok from the boss (me!) and my husband (thank you honey!), used free travel miles to get here and Ta-Da, I’m in New York. I’ve been here a week so far and despite a few train mishaps and dealing with no AC, I’m loving it. The best part has been maintaining some normalcy by keeping to my work routine and having a sense of coming “home” even if it’s technically not mine. Of course there’s these two precious kitty cats that I’ve fallen madly in love with. They are the perfect roomies; not much mess, eat and sleep on a schedule, and no frivilous chit chat.

JoseJose, my bed mate.

PennyPooPenny, the door guard.

So because I’m trying to soak in all that this magical city has to offer, I’m going to cut this short with a little reflection.

Growing up my three brothers were all talented basketball players. Being younger and the only girl I was dragged had the pleasure of watching a LOT of their games. At one point my oldest brother actually coached the other two in high school. I don’t recall the specifics of the article but there was an article written about them titled, “A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss”. I’ve thought of that saying a lot this year as I’ve bounced from city to city promoting my boots, ran up to the road to Arkansas to organize vegan events and teach cooking classes, supported local vegan activities in Dallas…all while trying to manage my family, pets, friends and household. I know many of you out there have it crazier than I do but when I was outlining my schedule recently for my mom so that she could “pen” it on the calendar, I realized just how insane it might all sound. Of course it didn’t help that she acknowledged it too.

Then once again I thought of that saying and smiled. I like being a rolling stone. Constantly on the move doing what I love; learning, sharing, teaching, and eating all things vegan. I really wouldn’t have it any other way. You can see where I’ll be rolling my stone this month at http://katmendenhall.com/test/ and if you want a drool or two follow me on Instagram.

Hope to see you out there.

Kat
